In Granddaughter’s Sled the tradition in the village is to leave the old and weak out to die in the woods alone. When the man, Ivan, and his daughter bring the grandfather into the woods to leave him to die they realize that it is wrong and they can’t just leave him there. They bring him home and hide him in a room in their house. Later when a famine strikes the grandfather comes up with idea that feeds the entire town and saves them all. If Ivan and his daughter had left the grandfather out in the woods to die the entire town would have starved. This made the people in the town realize that elderly people aren’t just weak and feeble but are wise and should be respected.
