We Cater to White Trade Only

A restaurant sign from 1938 is pictured saying "We cater to white trade only". This is an extreme example of racism especially knowing that during 1938 the country was going through the Great Depression so a restaurant should be begging anyone they saw to buy something from them if they had any money, regardless of color or race. I'm not saying that it would be acceptable for anyone to be turned away due to race, because it's not okay, but from the owner's viewpoint he should have thought of the money he would lose by only allowing white people in his establishement. It just shows how arrogant and ignorant racists are. They don't consider the big picture or how they could benefit from accepting other races, they just think about the random hatred they have against people of different races. But it's the owner's loss. Because of his stubborn and racist mentality he will lose out on a business oppurtunity.
