Cultural Background of the Time
Hollywood in the 1930's was a time of glamour, humor and class. During the 1930's there was a change from silent films to "talkies" or films with sound. People enjoyed entertainment ranging from drama to comedy, distracting themselves from the economic disaster our country was going through during the time. The actors of the 1930's were classy, well dressed and the women of the time wore a lot of makeup and made a living playing up their beauty. Hollywood and movies during the time seemed to be either sappy romances or funny comedies starring names that are still easily recognized today. Hollywood hasn't seemed to change that much since then though. There is still the heartthrob, the star who causes a stir with breaking the law, the beautiful, power hungry actress and the adorable child star. The only huge difference that I noticed is that movies and television of the 1930's didn't seem to feature any popular black or other ethnic actors but now there are many very popular and talented actors with numerous backgrounds.
