Rosewood Massacre

The Rosewood Massacre is evidence that racism reached an unacceptable high in the United States during the 2oth century. When people are being lynched and murdered and the event isn't turned into a national crisis something is seriously wrong with our country and we need to take a long look at what we all need to do to fix the problem. The fact that an event like this happened and the coverage on it was minimal is scary to think, I mean if this wasn't covered then what other racial events went unnoticed by the public? I find it amazing that after years of social studies and studying racism in our country in school this is the first time I have even heard of the Rosewood Massacre. I think this says a lot about how ignorant most of us are to important events in history such as this one. It is at least nice to see that in the 1980's the survivors of the terror were compensated for the "trouble" but is this really enough? All the money in the world could not erase the trauma these poor people have and I think our government could have done so much more to help and prevent these kinds of racial injustices from ever happening again. We can hope that we have developed enough as a civilization to be past rioting and murdering because of race, but then again there are still groups like the Ku Klux Klan around. It wouldn't have hurt anything to put precautionary laws and security in place and who cares if we never have to use it? It's kind of like having a fire detector in your house, you hope that you never have to need it but you still have one just in case. It simply makes sense.
