This photo was taken in March 1936. In the tent is an agricultural worker's family with seven hungry children. The 32 year old mother sits with her children in a pea pickers camp because of the failure of the early pea crop. They had to sell there tent just to buy food. Sacrificing your shelter for just something to eat demonstrates how rough the times were. The mother in the picture is holding only a baby. I wouldn't want to raise any child in conditions like shown in the photograph. It just goes to show how lucky some of us have it compared to others.
