Many writers and reporters have been attacked while covering revolutions and other controversial topics. Lara Logan was recently attacked while covering the protests in Egypt. Anderson Cooper, from CNN, and Jerome Boehm from BBC, were also attacked in Egypt, as were many other reporters, writers, and journalists (www.guardian.co.uk). Some have even been imprisoned or detained overnight, along with camera crews (http://jordantimes.com). Filming crews have even had their equipment taken from them. People who want to silence a revolution, in this case pro-government protesters, go after journalists and reporters because they are the ones who make everyone else aware of the events. The pro-government protesters in Egypt don't want the world to know about the protests against the government, as this will create more supporters of the anti-government protesters. These groups want to be able to do whatever reckless, heartless deeds they wish without the press and the world bearing down on their every move and criticizing them. The fact that the people who provide us with this information are the first to be attacked in a revolution shows that as a society, we really care about the information we get regarding the rest of the world. The pro-government protesters in Cairo seem to realise this, as hence we see our information sources being attacked and abused.
