Following the example of Egypt, protests broke out in Bahrain on February 14th as the people called for an end to the monarchy in their country. After a difficult week, hope was found on February 19th for the protesters as the riot police pulled out of the square after a bloody fight. The police had used tear gas and rubber bullets in an effort to control the outraged protesters, killing and injuring many. Shortly after the attack the police retreated from the square. People sobbed out of joy and waved flags from the tops of buildings celebrating their bittersweet triumph over the government. At the same time they also mourned the loss of their fellow protesters who died fighting for what they believe in. Bahrain was in a joyful state but protesters are also remaining very cautious since the police has pulled out before but returned and opened fire on the citizens. But for now they are rejoicing their success and are hopeful for positive change in their country, giving themselves and future generations the freedoms they deserve. The protests that have taken place in Bahrain are important to America because the African Island is one of our allies and if matters are elevated enough then there is a chance of the United States becoming involved in yet another conflict. Our country has enough problems of our own as it is right now, but none compare to the sufferings of the citizens of Bahrain. If necessary I think that America should become involved in the conflicts if we would help, but only if completely necessary. We can all hope that the government has backed out for good this time and soon Bahrain's people will have their freedom.
