Cultural Background of the Times

These actors were all famous during there time, but were also some of the first film actors. They didn't just become popular for being rich like a lot of famous people now, but put hard work into their acting. Instead of copying other actors, they had to think of their own techniques because there were no movie actors before them to base their acting on. Some of them also had to make the transition from silent films to speaking in films, which could be difficult because they weren't used to it. These were great actors who both entertained and inspired people (especially during the Great Depression), and lead the way for actors to come.
