Between the World and Me
At first I thought that this poem was about nature and was using a lot of personification, but then I realized that it was talking about a man who stumbled upon a black person who had been tarred and feathered. As I read on, the story then changed from the viewpoint of a man who found the body, to the first-person view of the man who had been tarred and feathered. After reading this poem, I think that To Kill a Mockingbird will have something to do with the unfair treatment of blacks. I think that the poet used a lot of detail in making this poem sound gruesome and horrible, but I don’t think that it was even close to what it must have been like for someone being tarred and feathered.
