Welcome Freshmen!

This year we will be working on blogging! Woo-hoo!

There are a few rules.

When you get a computer you must sit at a desk and it (the computer) must remain on a flat surface. :)

You must be responsible in what you say, nothing rude or disrespectful.

You must post a response, hand write a response, or type and email me a response each time this is assigned. If you do not complete your thoughts, please save what you are writing so you can come back and edit, please remember to come back and post it.

You will be presented with a question and you must write about it in a thoughtful manner. You should write your response in a word document and save it to your student folder, then copy and paste. (SAVE all work in case the computer goes wonky.)

Feel free to read others students' post and comment on them in a healthy respectful manner.

These are graded, so please take time to edit and formulate thoughtful posts.

TODAY'S POST: What is the best story you have ever heard or read? Why? What do you like to read?

Enjoy! This is meant to be a creative approach to communicating ideas and interacting with all of my other classes, breaking down the classroom walls, so to speak.

  3. The best book I have ever read is The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. I loved the book, even though it was mature but I think it taught a good lesson in life and it kept me reading. The book was about Jeannette Walls life herself and how she got out of a family going nowhere. Her dad was a drunk, who made promises he couldn’t keep and they lived in a bad house or no house at all and she was always getting made fun of. I like problem books because I find them more interesting and they keep me reading. My favorite author is Sarah Dessen because I love the way she writes.

  5. The best book i have read, was The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks, i liked it because Nicholas Sparks is a great author, and his writing is very detailed, everything he writes i can usually picture it in my mind. I usually like books about romance. Other books i would read would be about things that interest me, like cheerleading, or softball, or other things.

  7. The best story I have ever heard was told to me by my grandma. It took place when my grandma and grandpa were dating many years ago. They took a trip to my great great grandparent’s house so my grandpa could meet them. He was Dutch and my grandma’s side of the family was Italian so as you could imagine they didn’t have the same tastes in food. When my grandpa arrived, my great grandfather was eating the hot Italian peppers that they grew in the garden. In his broken English, my great grandfather told my grandpa to eat. He didn’t want to be rude so he sat down at the table. He didn’t know the peppers were hot, but he was in for a surprise the trip ended with my grandfather nearly crying on the car ride home, because the peppers were so hot!

  8. The best story that I have ever read hasn’t been just one at all. There have been several that I have read that I have enjoyed very much. If I had to choose a select few, then it would be these:

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J. R. R. Tolkien
    The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien
    Heartlight by T. A. Barron
The Lost Years of Merlin Series by T. A. Barron
The Great Tree of Avalon Series by T. A. Barron

These were very wonderful stories that left an impression on me that I remember every day. They were beautifully written and were enjoyable to read. They remind me of a song that one always remembers because they heard when they were a child. Even though these book and series were amazing, there is one that I have a special place in my heart. It’s The Secrets of Droon by Tony Abbott. I always read that series when I was little. I can still remember the storyline and the characters vividly.
My favorite genre is fantasy because it’s fun to visualize the scenes and the events in the book.

  9. The best story i ever read was code orange. i liked this book because the main character didn't think he was going to live. so it told the story though everything he cared about with in the time he was held captive. it makes you think about everything that is important to you and how u would deal with it all. i like to read mystery novels because it makes u think about everything and u never want to stop read. so when u do put the book down you can't wait to pick it back up.

  10. The best story that I’ve ever heard was from was my aunt, Ellen. She told me about how her house, which she lived in since she was 8, was taken by the state to make a highway. Having no choice but to sell it, Ellen was forced to move out of her home on 8th Street of 15 years. Twenty-three at the time, Ellen was working across the street at RPI. Demolition of the house began and Ellen watched helplessly from a window and heard the crashing of bricks. This was, naturally, a very sad time for Ellen.
Little did Ellen know, but a selfless, courteous co-worker named Lucille went over to where the house once stood and asked the construction workers if she could take a couple of bricks. She was allowed to take as many as she wanted. Well, Lucille brought them home the bricks, washed them, and had them encased with the address: 115 8th Street inscribed into the plastic case.
Once Christmas time rolled on around, Lucille handed a box (filled with the two bricks) to my aunt. In reply, Ellen said, “Jeesh! What do you have in here? Bricks?!” She anxiously opened the box and there they were the two bricks from the very house on 8th Street, her home. “Now you’ll always have your hours.” Lucille said to Ellen with, I’m sure, a wink. Today, the two bricks sit on top of Ellen’s entertainment center in her apartment in Troy.

  11. The best book that I have ever read was Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. This book was the third book in The Hunger Games series. Mockingjay is about the revolution that a futuristic society goes through and is told by Katniss Everdeen. The reason that Mockingjay is the best book that I have read is that each page keeps you interested. There is action on each page and that it is impossible to put down.
