She was dead, but not gone
The absolute best story I have read ever was "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. Discovered first by movie, I wondered if it was ever based on a book like how most movies are now, which I later found to be true. After re-reading the story, I officially gave it the title of my favorite book. The book is an definite murder mystery that isn't at all what first comes to mind at the word 'murder'. Instead, it's a story of a young girl, with a full life ahead of her and who crosses path's with a crazed man who is set on destroying it all by one fatal decision, either to kill or not to kill her.
