Extended school year? Good luck with that.
As much as American children need to thrive in education, I seriously doubt that extending the American school year will make work properly. Many of America's public schools barely have the money to run as is, let alone for another 80 or so days (Sand Lake Elementary School closed this year, along with George Washington Elementary, and that's just within our small town). Also, I feel that the high school dropout rate would increase very much if this plan were to be put in effect. Perhaps a better solution would be to get better teachers to teach, and to take action and do something about the lack of kids attending school, and stop worrying about how to make it longer.
