North

The best book I ever read was North, by Donna Jo Napoli. I read it a long time ago but I still remember what it was about and how the story went. It is about a boy, named Alvin, who is fascinated by the life of an arctic explorer, who co-discovered the North Pole. He lives in Washington D.C., where he runs away from his mother and great-grandmother, to follow his hero and travel to North Pole. He uses trains to get to Canada, where he travels to Churchill, where he meets Inuit people and they help him get to the Arctic Circle. There, he joins forces with a trapper and learns how to survive in the cold. They face many difficulties like polar bears and wolves. I like this book because it had a lot of action in it and the author used a lot of detail to tell the story. Also, it was a realistic fiction book and those are the kind of books I like to read. I also like to read historical fiction because they are about real events that have actually happened but with a little twist.
