The Life of Pi

The best book I've ever read woud definitly be Life of Pi by Yann Martel. The book has a very original plot, about a boy lost on the Pacific Ocean on a lifeboat; the only complication is that he must share this small lifeline with a fully grown Bengal tiger. The story is filled with symbolism from start to finish, which all connect to several overarching themes present throughout the story. The relationship between the boy, Pi, and the tiger, Richard Parker, is an important and often humourous part of the book. Suggesting a survival book as my all time favorite would suggest that I also enjoy the survival genre, which I do, but I vastly prefer sci-fi and fantasy books. Their fantastical approach to life can be, with the right book, a window into another world.
