The best book I've ever read was Swallowing Stones by Joyce McDonald. This book was very interesting and a page turner. It was about a boy names Michael who, on the the Fourth of July, shot a shot gun, and the bullet flew a few blocks over and shot a man who was doing work on his roof at the time. This bullet killed the man, who was the father of a girl named Jenna. Jenna goes to school with Michael, and they know each other. Police start suspecting that Michael is the killer of Jenna's father. Jenna is determined to find out who killed her father, and get revenge on that person. No one knows that Michael killed Jenna's father, and the guilt is killing him. This book was intriguing to read, and I never wanted to put it down.
My favorite genre to read is romance and suspense. I like to read suspensful stories because they keep me wanting more. They are also usually very interesting and have a good story line. Swallowing Stones had both romance and suspense, which made it a great book overall.

  1. The best story I have ever read in my entire 14 years of life is… drum roll please… bumbumbumbumbumbumbum… The BFG by Roald Dahl. It is a fiction book about a girl who is taken away by a giant, a big, friendly giant. She must live with the giant and can never go back to England or else she could give away the secret of giants existing. She has to face many problems, including how to communicate with the giant because he does not speak very good English and getting eaten by the big, mean giants. Will this little girl ever get back home or will she have to live with this giant forever? It is the best story I have ever read mainly because Roald Dahl uses a lot of imagination, like snozzcumbers, which makes me interested and not want to put the book down, EVER!!! I like to read fiction books because fiction books are creative and do not have to be true. An author can put whatever they want in their book even if it is impossible to do in real life and can be as unrealistic as a porcupine shooting marshmallows out of their back at the puff cloud of bikini models, the king of candy spikes. If one wants to read an awesome fiction book that is extremely interesting and suspenseful, read The BFG by Roald Dahl.

  2. The best book I’ve ever read was a realistic fiction book by the name of the Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, and I happened to read it this summer. It was about a teenager, named Holden Caulfield who is dealing with getting kicked out of his 4th prep school, and struggling with the challenges of maturity, and decides to get away from it all by running to New York City. This book was great because the author used a technique called stream of consciousness, when the character expresses his thoughts through a way of telling the story. I could really connect with him and feel what he was feeling when he expressed his thoughts. The theme of the story was also a great part, taking your personal wrongs and turning them into wisdom for others. Speaking of interesting things, I really enjoy realistic fiction, and that’s what I mostly read. I like thinking about the real world and comparing how the story relates to events in my life, it awesome.

  3. The best story I ever read was the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. I loved this book because it was exciting and very suspenseful. Many people just watch the movies but people don’t realize that the books are so much better. I just finished the last book this summer and it was great. At first, I thought this series was not worth reading till I saw some of the movies. I also wanted to see why everyone loved this book so much. After reading the first book, I realized it was better than I ever imagined. As I read through the series, then I realized the more I read, the better they became. This book is a fantasy book, which is a genre many people used to over look in the bookshelves.
Overall, my favorite book in the whole series would have to be the last book, The Deathly Hallows which the first part of the movies is coming out in November. J.K. Rowling in these books takes you into another world in Britain of the world of wizardry. Even though it sounds childish, those who have read or have seen the movies, know its not. Instead, it’s actually a pretty dark book with some violence. It all starts as the boy Harry, the main character, finds out he’s a wizard at the age of 11. Up till the last book, an awful, dark wizard lives terrorizing the wizard and muggle world. Only the boy Harry can stop and kill him. Harry and his two best friends, Ron and Hermione, have to fight the wizard of Voldemort, who killed Harry’s parents when Harry was just a baby.
This dark book also has some humor in it too. My favorite characters, very humorous people are the twins, Fred and George. These two jokesters are very funny yet one has (spoiler coming!) a tragic death. I was really sad and disappointed in the last book how Fred, Lupin, Tonks, and Hedwig all die plus many other important people. George also loses an ear which is very disappointing.
In the end, I really loved all of the books in this series. If you haven’t read them, READ THEM! Their really great and they will keep you reading till the happy ending at the end of the Deathly Hallows!
