Dorothea Lange

The 1930's were a terrible time for our country and people were barely surviving due to the deteriorated economy in the United States. Families like the one pictured in the photos were would not have been uncommon to see, and chances are that they were previously an average family leading a comfortable life never dreaming they would have to sell the tent they would eventually live in for some money for food. The mother in the photos is only 32 years old but her face looks so aged and worried that she could pass for at least 50 years old. It's heartbreaking to think that adults and young children were living through such horrendous times and circumstances, hoping that they would live through it. Our economy today is weak but we are so lucky compared to what our country suffered through in the early 20th century.
