As Japan recovers from the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit just days ago another problem has raised, radiation poisoning. the earthquake triggered several nuclear reactors to go off exposing radiation to the air. Experts say that releases of radioactive steam from ruined plants could last as long as more than a month. scientist in Japan hope that the steam will fend off a bigger problem that could occur, the nuclear reactors core blowing up. if this happens even more nuclear radiation would be let off into the air. So far two reactors, both at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, have started to melt at the core. the Japanese have measured air levels around the nuclear plant which appear to be two times the amount of nuclear radiation that is considered safe. later U.S. officials flying in a helicopter picked up pieces of nuclear radiation 60 miles above Japan. People fear that this could be the effects of contamination on a larger scale across japan. Although Japan is mentally scarred from the days of nuclear radiation during World War two the Japanese are forced to let off steam from the nuclear reactors to avert much larger problems. first they they flood the nuclear reactors with sea water then let off the steam from the nuclear reactors. it is an extreme enough case that scientist say this could last for up to a year. Adding to the fuel experts are concerned that more than just gamma rays and radiation are being let off. they are afraid a more toxic substance called, mixed oxide, is getting into the atmosphere.
The whole problem was caused by the Tsunami which destroyed to essential cooling system that the reactors need.
Despite the seemingly impossible task facing the country of Japan it is their duty to keep their country safe and that means taking care of the radiation poisoning. It is also their duty to make sure that no other country experiences the harmful effects of the radiation. But our country, and others, should be stepping in to help Japan in their weakened state and make sure the radiation is taking care of. I think as a country, or even on smaller scales like your family or school, we should donate money to japan to help their efforts. With the money the could buy new generators to help reboot the nuclear plants and stop the radiation that is spreading across Japan.
I think the quote said by, The Talmud, is true in Japan's case. i believe that, like the quote says, we are obliged to help Japan or any country in a time in of need. But we do not to need put the weight of their problems on our shoulders and take on their problems. Our country should help but not worry so mush about the state of Japan that our own country is effected because of that.
